How we work
We believe in a collaborative and transparent approach to every project. Below is an overview of the process we've developed with my clients over time.
You can click on the headings to see more details about each step.
We start by understanding your goals. To do that, we need to see the space and talk with you about your ideas. The initial consult is free and may take one to two hours. We may need access to crawl spaces, attics, and other areas of your home to get a clear picture. We like to do this as a collaboration and can design with you if you don't have an architext.
Based on our discussion, we create a plan that reflects your taste, needs, and budget.
Most of our clients don’t have an architect. Some clients can draw pictures, some can explain with words - either way we can make it happen. If you have half an idea, we can definitely say that you can save on not paying an architect.
If you have an architect who has come up with something but limited experience on how to make it happen, we can do that as well.
After the free consult, you get a preliminary cost estimate and a sample contract. At this point, you decide whether to pursue the project with Always Build. If you need more information, we can help research the options you're considering.
Note: Drawing up plans, checking on the availability of materials, and thoroughly researching the project will start to incur charges.
We give you a detailed estimate and timeline with clear milestones. You can count on realistic predictions, no hidden fees, and creative solutions.
We have done everything from building a secret passageway (a hinged bookcase) to turning a storage room into a gym. We installed a filtered bottle filler, a hidden dehumidifier, and wired everything plus a screen for working out. We custom-built the shelves and modified discount cabinets from Lowes to save the client money, without losing quality.
We get to work. We order and transport supplies, then implement the design you determined. We keep you informed throughout the process and make sure that everything is completed to the highest standards.
If something is outside of our expertise, we consult with colleagues, hire a subcontractor, or refer you to a specialist.
If something changes - and it often will - we'll discuss it. We lay out options with pros, cons, and predictable costs. Talking through problems is how we come up with solutions and decide next steps.
Construction and remodels require patience for the process. A remodel can be especially intrusive, and we will be a part of the family for a short while.
Once your project is complete, we do a walkthrough together to ensure you’re completely satisfied with the work. We tie up loose ends and settle any outstanding business at this time.
We don't bargain when the invoice is due. This is common in some cultures, but we don't bargain after the work is done.
We will ask for your permission to take before-and-after photos of the jobsite. We use these for advertising and remove any identifying information. If you opt for photos, we can provide you with digital copies at the conclusion of the project.
